Managing pain during the perinatal period is a challenge to healthcare providers given the lack of literature and formal education. In the Project ECHO: Pain in Pregnancy series, the specialist hub team will support your education through didactic teaching sessions and working through complex cases together.

Dr. Rebecca Titman, MSc, MD FRCPC

Project Lead

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Dr. Rebecca Titman is currently Assistant Professor in the Division of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto, Ontario Canada. Her clinical work is based at Sinai Health where she works in both neurological rehabilitation and in the Wasser Pain Management Centre Pain in Pregnancy program. Her academic work focuses on gaps in women’s health pain management education and curriculum development.

Christine Krupa, BSc BASc

Project Coordinator

Medical Student

Christine is currently a third year medical student at the University of Ottawa with a passion for women’s health, specifically in improving chronic pain management. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto and previously worked as a Research Student in the Centre for Global Child Health at the Hospital for Sick Children. She is funded by the UHN Women's Health Research Program Summer Studentship Award.

Dr. Abeer Alomari, MD FRCPC

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Dr. Abeer Alomari is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Toronto, with a cross-appointment in the Department of Anesthesia and Pain Medicine. She is a full-time Clinical Investigator and a Staff Pain Physician at the University Health Network and a core member of the Pelvic Pain Program with the Toronto Academic Pain Medicine Institute. Dr. Alomari’s clinical and academic focus lies in the multimodal management of chronic pain, with special expertise in chronic pelvic pain and complex musculoskeletal pain.

Olivia Drodge, MScPT, PhD Student

Pelvic Health Physiotherapist

Olivia Drodge is a Registered Pelvic Health Physiotherapist and earned her Master of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Toronto. Currently, she practices at Women’s College Hospital with the Toronto Academic Pain Medicine Institute (TAPMI) and within the Department of Surgery. Olivia has pursued extensive training in pregnancy and perinatal health, including advanced coursework in pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain, labour and delivery support through comfort measures and pelvic biomechanics, cesarean birth preparation and recovery, acupressure for pregnancy and birth, and postpartum pelvic floor care. This specialized training complements her work in pelvic pain and complex pelvic health conditions, allowing her to support patients through all stages of pregnancy, birth, and recovery

Dr. Erin Lurie, MD CCFP

Family Medicine 

Dr Erin Lurie is the current program director for the Enhanced Skills Addictions Program at U of T. She is also the clinical lead for the perinatal addictions clinic "My Baby and Me" at St Michael's Hospital where she cares for patients with substance use disorders and mental health concerns in pregnancy. She is also practices general family medicine and addictions care at St Michael's Hospital.

Dr. Matthew Sheppard, MD FRCPC

Anesthesiology

Dr. Sheppard is an Anesthesiologist and a graduate of the University of Toronto's Interventional Pain Management Fellowship and multi-disciplinary Pain Medicine Sub-Specialty Residency Program. He is the director of the acute pain service at Mount Sinai Hospital where he works in anesthesia and acute, chronic and obstetric pain. Throughout his career, Dr. Sheppard has been actively involved with educating medical students, fellows, and staff in areas of pain medicine. He is the current program director for the pain medicine royal college residency program at the University of Toronto. He previously served as the site lead for the Wasser Pain Management Centre and the wellness representative for the Pain Medicine Sub-Specialty Residency Program. He looks forward to the opportunity to participate in this year Pain in Pregnancy ECHO. 

Erika Cheung, MScN, NP-PHC

Nurse Practitioner

Erika Cheung is a Nurse Practitioner at the Wasser Pain Management Clinic at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, where she provides care for patients with complex chronic and transitional pain, including those who are pregnant. She brings a strong foundation in primary care, chronic disease management, and pain neuroscience education. Erika has expertise in both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic pain treatments and co-facilitates group therapies. Her clinical practice is informed by a deep commitment to patient-centered care, harm reduction, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Dr. Huda Khayyat, MD FRCPC

Anesthesiology

Dr. Khayyat is an Anesthesiologist who completed her anesthesia and pain medicine training at the University of Toronto. Her clinical interests are focused on interventional pain management and women’s health, including pain in pregnancy, postpartum pain, pelvic pain, and nociplastic pain. Her career objective is to concentrate on education and the development of healthcare curricula aimed at improving women's health.

Dr. Ginette Moores, MD FRCPC

Neurology

Dr. Ginette Moores is a Neurologist with additional expertise in women’s and obstetrical neurology. She trained in neurology at McMaster University and subsequently completed a fellowship in Women’s Issues in Neurology at the University of Toronto. Currently she works at Mount Sinai Hospital where she runs a multidisciplinary Obstetrical Neurology clinic as well as participates in the Wasser Pain Management Clinic Pain in Pregnancy program. Her clinical focus includes the evaluation and treatment of individuals with hormonal neurologic conditions and the management of neurologic disorders in patients requiring preconception counseling, medication optimization, and care throughout pregnancy.

Najla Tabbara, PharmD ACPR, MSc

Pharmacist

Najla Tabbara (PharmD, ACPR, MSc) is a pharmacist and clinical practice leader in the Women’s and Infants’ Health program at Mount Sinai Hospital. Her practice is focused on providing high-risk pregnancy care to adults admitted to the maternal-fetal medicine unit and infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit.
